You may Start Using TracMap, or continue reading for more information.
Navigation
Trac Map supports basic navigation functions that let the user pan, zoom in, and zoom out.
The four arrows allow the user to pan the map. The magnifying glass with a plus symbol, zooms in, while the magnifying glass with a minus symbol zooms out. The central button, a magnifying glass with ”1:1” returns the map to its default scale. The user may also click, and drag on the map, and select a region to zoom in on.
Selecting Data
Trac Map contains a number of tools for locating data. A user will typically select the dataset they’re interested in, locate it on the map, and then narrow down their search if the immediate information does not answer their question.
A list of available datasets is shown at the bottom of the map. From this list, the user may pick the type of data they are looking for. Datasets are generally listed by year. Once the user has selected their dataset, clicking update will refresh the map with new information.
The map will display all the sites where data is collected for their data type. If data was collected for the selected year, then the location, and any useful information will be listed to the left of the map.
In this example, the site “Albro Pl” had occupancy data for the year 1997. The Average Car Occupancies for GP and HOV lanes is listed, along with the percentage of people who illegally drove in the HOV lanes. When a user moves the mouse over a site’s name, it will be identified on the map.
Trac Map also supports trip data, and for certain data sets, such as the “Flow Trips” data, will draw the trip on the map when a user points to the trip’s name.
If the trip does not fit entirely in the current map, a magnifying glass will appear next to the trip’s name. The user may click this icon to reposition the map so the entire trip is visible.
Obtaining More Information
If the information presented in the Trac Map interface does not answer a user’s question, they may select one of the sites by either clicking on it in the map, on selecting it from the list of data on the left. This action will take the user to a specialized website where they can find more detailed information.
