About the Hov Project

The Hov Project collects Occupancy Data by observing vehicles on the freeways.

Occupancy Data is used to compute various statistics such as the Hov Violation Rate for a given location.

Visit the Hov Site at http://trac29.trac.washington.edu/hov to view summaries of the data.

The current data summary includes the following statistics:

• Average Car Occupancy (ACO)
• Average Vehicle Occupancy (AVO)
• Vehicle Distribution
• Hov Violation Rate

Process

Data is collected in Sessions that last approximately thirty minutes. During a day of collection, Observers will collect for about three or four sessions each.

The data is then uploaded to our server and then validated. Once the data has been validated it is ready to be used on the website.
